About Council for British Archaeology London

The Council for British Archaeology (CBA) is an educational charity working throughout the UK to involve people in archaeology and to promote the appreciation and care of the historic environment for the benefit of present and future generations.

CBA London is the one of the of the Council for British Archaeology’s network of regional groups. We aim to encourage participation in archaeology, to support and enable archaeological scholarship and skills development, and to act to protect and promote London’s historic environment.

We have five core aims in our constitution:

1. To advance the study and practice of archaeology;

2. To promote the education of the public in such archaeology;

3. To conduct and/or communicate the results of relevant research;

4. To advance public understanding and care of the historic environment;

5. To act as a forum for debate on archaeological issues

We work towards our aims via:

•  Our events programme for our members and other interested parties;

•  The London Archaeological Forum, held twice a year;

•  advocating for London’s archaeology; and

•  our regular committee meetings and annual AGM.

CBA London comprises heritage professionals, interested members of the public, academics and students – thus representing the multi-faceted nature of archaeological activity in the city and its environs. In addition, most local archaeological and historic societies are affiliated members, and some are represented on the Board of Trustees.

CBA London is run by a board of trustees on behalf of the membership. Trustees are elected by the members and report back to members at our AGM.
