The Autumn LAF 2018 was held on the 19th November 2018 at 6pm.
The 2018 London Archaeological Prize was awarded to Rebecca Haslam and Guy Thompson of Pre-Construct Archaeology, for their publication An Immense and Exceedingly Commodious Goods Station: The Archaeology and History of the Great Northern Railway’s Goods Yard at King’s Cross, 1849 to the Present Day.
The guest speakers were as follows:
- The new Museum of London venue in West Smithfield – Finbarr Whooley of the Museum of London discussed the plans for the new museum at the historic Smithfield Market.
- The Battersea Channel Project and the joys of geoarchaeology – Virgil Yendell of MOLA discussed the multi-organisation project in the Nine Elms/Battersea development area
- The Guy’s Hospital Science Gallery site – Alistair Douglas of PCA revealed the discoveries from excavations in this important area of Southwark.
- Archaeology at St Bart’s – Anthony Francis of MOLA reviewed recent results at another hospital, in Smithfield, where Roman, medieval and Great Fire deposits have been found.
